First Aid was born here!
Here's an interesting fact about the area I'm in now ... in a nearby suburb "First Aid" was born. Dr. Matthew J. Shields began his medical practice here and was frequently called upon to treat coal-miners at accident sites. Dr. Shields soon saw the need for timely treatment of injuries on-site that could be performed by properly trained co-workers until professionals arrived. The first class of mine-workers began meeting in 1899 and became known as the First Aid Association of Jermyn. Above is a picture of the university where the course is being held and now some location specifics:
This is a city of about 75,000 people. It is located about 100 miles west of New York City and 100 miles north of Philadelphia. Where am I?
